Congratulations on joining your local board of education — and thank you for volunteering your time to help build strong schools in your community. No other public officials have as great an influence on the lives and education of young people as board members. While being a board member is not an easy job, know that the New Jersey School Boards Association is here to assist you, providing training, resources and advocacy.

NJSBA’s anthology on the basics of board membership includes articles on topics ranging from board-superintendent relations and tips for new board members to the board’s role in curriculum and in finance. The book also includes a Glossary of Education Terms and Acronyms. This publication is available as a free PDF only to NJSBA members.

New members should feel free to reach out to their field service representatives with any questions they may have.
