The Board of Education of the Pennsauken Public School District, Camden County, has opened the search for a Superintendent of Schools to serve as the Chief School Administrator of the Board of Education in accordance with Board Policies and New Jersey Statutes.

THE COMMUNITY

The Township of Pennsauken, Camden County, New Jersey is 12.2 square miles.  Officially formed in 1892, Pennsauken Township is an active, involved, and very diverse community of approximately 37,288 residents.  The community takes great pride in promoting the town’s long history.

The Township of Pennsauken is a favorable location for residents because of its premier geographic location within Camden County and its close proximity to the cultural hub of Philadelphia and many major universities.

THE SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Pennsauken Public Schools serve over 5,000 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 in one early childhood center, five elementary schools, an intermediate school, a STEM school, a middle school, comprehensive high school and an alternate high school.  The District offers a Career and Technical Education Program (CTE), Air Force JROTC Program,  in addition to College Preparatory Credit courses. Students and their families are supported by a staff of over 500 professionals and an additional 458 full and part-time support staff.  The District is governed by a nine-member Board of Education.  Board members are elected by public vote in November in staggered three-year terms.

 SUPERINTENDENT CRITERIA

 Possession of NJ School Administrator certification or Certificate of Eligibility required

 2-5 years Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent/Central Office experience

 Management experience above Principal level required

A minimum of five-years of successful classroom experience

Earned doctorate preferred

Experienced with governing public schools under New Jersey State Regulations

 Experienced with CTE Programs and STEM Preferred

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE SHALL

Possess strong leadership skills

Strong, effective leadership skills in curriculum and technology; personnel support; finance; and strong verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrate ability to move the district forward in student achievement

Ability to create a climate that promotes aspiration to high expectations and advances student achievement

Maintain an excellent work ethic

Excellent quality of work, conscientious, dedication to the school district and its functions, and values a dedicated staff

Have a strong understanding of current best practices in elementary and secondary level instruction.

5. Written work product (not a PowerPoint). Examples include, but not limited to:

·         A report to the Board of Education on a topic relating to one of the following topics: planning, assessment, teaching & learning, policy, etc.

·         A response to a crisis or emergency

·         A letter to the staff or community; or a member of the staff or community, or a student

            The written work product should be dated, and include any context necessary for interpretation.

CONTRACT AND SALARY

The Pennsauken Board of Education is prepared to offer a salary and benefit package based on background, experience, and State law/regulations. The contract will have a term of three-to-five years.
