On Wednesday, March 13, the Warren County School Boards Association honored 21 students from across the county as “Unsung Heroes” at Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington Township.
The Warren County Unsung Heroes included seven sixth-grade Unsung Heroes from K-6 school districts; eight eighth-grade Unsung Heroes from K-8 school districts; and six twelfth-grade Unsung Heroes from K-12 and regional high school districts.
Unsung Heroes make outstanding contributions to their schools and communities, even though they are often overlooked under traditional student recognition guidelines. Unsung Heroes can be students who make their school a better place because of their warm personality, their empathy and concern for others. They tend not to let obstacles stop them.
All school districts in Warren County are eligible to recognize one Unsung Hero. About 175 people turned out to recognize their achievements and contributions.
Dr. Rosalie S. Lamonte, interim executive county superintendent of schools, brought greetings on behalf of the New Jersey Department of Education and the Warren County Office of Education.
Dr. Tom Connors, vice president for finance of the New Jersey School Boards Association, attended along with WCSBA President Lisa Marshall, WCSBA First Vice President Jennifer Knittel and Paul Williams, an NJSBA board of directors delegate.
Ray Pinney, lead director of member training and engagement at the NJSBA, attended along with Rob Acerra, county activities coordinator at NJSBA, who coordinated the logistics and planning of the event.
