The current atmosphere is filled with challenges for those leading our schools. “Calming the Waters of Turbulent Seas,” scheduled for May 17, 2023, is the first of a series of leadership programs focused on meeting the needs of the members of the New Jersey School Boards Association.
A newly announced breakout session, “Unlocking Trust: Tools for Building Productive Relationships with Fellow Board Members” will discuss the Johari Window and FIRO Theory to teach participants how to build trust in a group. Attendees will learn how to use these models to better understand their own needs and the needs of others, all while creating an inclusive, collaborative and respectful environment.
The Johari Window is a model that helps individuals understand personal and group bias and how they impact relationships. The FIRO Theory focuses on three interpersonal needs: inclusion, control and affection.
This session will be led by Mike Ritzius of the New Jersey Education Association. He is a UniServ representative and liaison to the Labor Management Collaborative. He is also the staff liaison for the New Jersey Collaborative State Partnership – a joint venture between the NJSBA, the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association and the NJEA.
