The U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center and Newark Field Office will be holding a free school safety seminar on Thursday, June 6, at the Jersey Mike’s Arena at 83 Rockafeller Road in Piscataway.
This event — which is titled “N.J. School Safety Seminar: Using Behavioral Threat Assessment to Prevent Targeted School Violence” — will feature subject matter experts who will share the latest best practices for implementing behavioral threat assessment programs. NTAC will highlight the key findings and implications from its research on targeted school violence prevention. Its presentation will discuss the background, thinking, and behaviors of students who attacked or plotted to attack their school. The presentation will also offer guidance and available resources on developing a behavior-based approach to targeted violence prevention in schools.
NTAC will describe the implementation of a behavioral threat assessment program in a school district, and share best practices and lessons learned during the process. NTAC will discuss enhancing behavioral threat assessment by aligning and integrating the process with other student support programs.
Doors will open at 8 a.m. for the event, which will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3:45 p.m. The event is geared for school administrators, counselors, security personnel, law enforcement and school resource officers.
