The latest issue of School Leader magazine is online and features a timely article on strategies for handling contentious school board meetings.
The article, “Calming the Crowd,” by Mary Ann Friedman, an NJSBA field service representative, is available separately as a PDF here. The piece suggests strategies including controlling expectations, acknowledging the crowd and the emotion, and handling the public comment period.
NJSBA’s New Report A piece on the fifth in the Association’s series of reports during the pandemic, “Rebuilding Opportunities for Students,” is the cover story in the current issue. The report looks at challenges facing school districts, and provides information on effective practices and programs, meeting the needs of special populations, the role of arts education in social-emotional learning, and directing coronavirus relief funding so that it has the optimal impact on growth and learning for students.
Virtual Workshop 2021 School Leader also provides a sneak peek at Virtual Workshop 2021 and highlights the three keynote speakers scheduled to present, Acting Commissioner of Education Dr. Angelica Allen-McMillan; wellness expert Alisha DeLorenzo; and Maura Baker, the student representative to the State Board of Education, who will speak on her struggles with and strategies for dealing with dyslexia.
The conference will also feature approximately 140 training sessions from Oct. 26-28.
