The New Jersey School Boards Association is hosting in-person regional Candidates Briefings to address the structure and responsibilities of local school boards in New Jersey. Candidates running for their local school board in the November general election 2024 are encouraged to attend this free program.

Participants will receive pertinent information on topics such as:

  • An overview of the role of the board member.
  • Legal requirements, including criminal background checks and financial disclosures.
  • The board as a policymaking body.
  • Mandated training requirements.
  • Ethical considerations to avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Resources available to board members.

This program is available at no cost to the candidates or their districts. All programs will feature the same content. Candidates are encouraged to attend at a location most convenient for them. All programs run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.​​​

Northern Region
  • Thursday, Sept. 26: Mount Olive High School, Flanders.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 16: Elmwood Park Memorial High School, Elmwood Park.
Central Region
  • Tuesday, Sept. 24: Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School, Bridgewater.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 8: Mercer County Technical Schools Sypek Center, Pennington.
Southern Region
  • Tuesday, Sept. 24: Cumberland County Technical Education Center, Vineland.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 16: West Deptford High School, West Deptford.
