Peter Wendrychowicz, who served as a member of the Mahwah Board of Education for 29 years and was a member of the New Jersey School Boards Association’s board of directors, died Aug. 31, 2024. He was 81 years old.

Peter WendrychowiczAssociation’s Resolutions Subcommittee, Emergency Resolutions Subcommittee and Legislative Committee. He was active in the Bergen County School Boards Association, serving as the organization’s president and vice president.

Wendrychowicz achieved the designations from NJSBA’s Board Member Academy of Certified Board Member, Master Board Member and Certified Board Leader.

A graduate of King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in English, he also earned a master’s of library and information science from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York.

In addition to his service to the Mahwah Board of Education and NJSBA, he was an active volunteer in several community organizations, including the Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters, Bergen County Library Association, New Jersey Public Library Association and the Mahwah Community News. He was a eucharistic minister at Immaculate Conception Church in Mahwah, and a Mahwah Public Library trustee. In addition, he coached soccer and track at Suffern Middle and High School and was employed by Ramapo Central School District for 39 years.

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Terry, and their seven children: Dawn-Marie (Larry Lombardi), Mark (Ann), Scott, Heather (Garry Alesio), Kelly (Steve), Jessica (Billy Spellman), and Keith (Alli). He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren.
