Louis Charles John McCall, 64, of Wenonah and Surf City, New Jersey, died suddenly Jan. 22, 2024.
Born in Irvington, he graduated from Bishop Eustace High School in 1977. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Joseph’s University in 1981. He was a CPA, former head audit partner at BDO in Philadelphia and was currently employed at Continuity Operations Group.
He served on the Wenonah Board of Education in Gloucester County for more than 12 years. He was the current board president, a role he’d served in for eight years. He was vice president of the board for one year.
He was a life member and past assistant fire chief of the Surf City Volunteer Fire Company #1 and EMS, where he held positions of fire company trustee and treasurer of the Surf City Fireman’s Relief Association. He was an EMS academy instructor.
He was also past president and trustee of the Wenonah Historical Society, past president of Wenonah Lions Club, past vice chair of the Wenonah Planning and Zoning Board, assisted and coached with the Wenonah Athletic Association, served as past audit chair of Visiting Nurses of Southern New Jersey and was the former CFO of the Washington Township Ambulance Board and Rescue Association Inc.
He loved vacations in Summerland Key, Florida, and Surf City with his wife and family. He was a Lionel Train enthusiast, the family photographer, enjoyed biking and kayaking, Bruce Springsteen and country music. He collected all sorts of tools and could fix anything and fixed things for everyone! He appointed himself as the Uber driver for his kids and grandkids. He loved being a firefighter. His biggest love was for his family. His favorite times were those spent with the grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki McCall (nee Braun); his children, Heather Jaworski and her husband, BJ, of Washington Township; Louis McCall and his wife, Leeann, of Woodbury Heights; Christina Davidson and her husband, Shawn, of Williamstown; Sean McCall of Westville, and Ryan McCall of Wenonah; seven grandchildren, Lucy, Ben, Avery, Tristan, Cody, Mackenzie, and Maverick; his mother, Joan McCall (nee Zalewski); two brothers, John McCall and his wife, Denise, and Ken McCall; his firefighter/brother, “Cousin John” Zalewski and wife, Marcia; his brothers-in-law, George Braun and Todd Braun and wife, Martina, and his mother-in-law, Marcy Braun. He is also survived by his two dogs who he loved so much, Duke and Ruby. He was predeceased by his father, Louis Charles McCall; father-in-law, George Braun; and sister-in-law, Karen McCall.
The burial was scheduled to be in Wenonah Cemetery.
