Linda S. Olson, 80, died May 21, 2023.
Born in Somerville to her late parents, Pacifico and Shirley Garo, she was a lifelong resident. She was a 1960 graduate of Somerville High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in history and education from Moravian College.
She was employed as a school teacher at Crim Elementary School in Bridgewater and went on to work as a supervisor at the Social Security Administration Office in Somerville for over 30 years, retiring in 2008. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Ladies Auxiliary Elks, and a longtime member of the Somerville Board of Education.
She was also a member of the Somerville-Bridgewater Rotary Club, where she was the past president and received the Paul Harris Award. She volunteered for United Way and the Alternatives Inc., where she was on the board of trustees. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, crocheting, reading, bowling, fishing and traveling on cruises. She will be sadly missed by all.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman “Chuck” Olson, who died in 2015. She is survived by her sons, Jesse Olson and his wife, Stephanie; and Erik Olson; and two sisters, Patricia Mintschenko and Toni Jo Kolupanowich.
The funeral service was at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Somerville. Interment followed at New Cemetery in Somerville.
