Robin Kampf, a digital media producer at the New Jersey School Boards Association, was recently awarded a Leaders of Distinction award from the Senior Citizens Activities Network in recognition of her work teaching people 50 and older in Monmouth and Ocean counties film and media literacy.
She received her award at a Nov. 14 luncheon hosted by SCAN, which is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to serving people 50 and older in Monmouth and Ocean counties, providing seminars and classes of interest for seniors to stay young, active and continue learning.
Kampf enjoys volunteering to help senior citizens, who she calls “seasoned citizens.” She began volunteering at SCAN about nine years after meeting the group’s executive director at a Chamber of Commerce event, she said.
“Active adults love to learn new things, and it keeps their minds sharp,” she said. “Volunteering seemed to be a natural extension from my adjunct teaching at several local colleges in New Jersey.”
Kampf noted that her oldest student is 86 years old, and while her students learn from her, she learns from them as well. “They love to dissect the shows they watch,” she said. “Seniors consume a lot of TV shows and movies and become better consumers as a result of the class.”
NJSBA congratulates Kampf on the honor and extends its appreciation for her efforts to serve her community.
