On Thursday, September 29, 2022, the New Jersey School Boards Association held regional meetings in the northern, central and southern portion of the state to provide information to school board candidates.
The Region Candidates’ Briefings drew wide participation from throughout the state. The meetings provided candidates with an overview of the structure and responsibilities of local school boards in New Jersey. Participants received pertinent information on a variety of topics, including:
- An overview of the board member role.
- Legal requirements, including criminal background checks and financial disclosures.
- The board as a policy making body.
- Mandated training requirements.
- Ethical considerations to avoid conflicts of interest.
- Resources available to board members.
The programs were held at no cost to the candidates or their districts.
