The New Jersey School Boards Association recently hired Harrison Silver to join its Governmental Relations team as legislative advocate.
Before joining the NJSBA, Silver was a graduate fellow with the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and also worked at BSA | The Software Alliance, conducting research on a variety of policy issues and working in an advocacy role. Earlier in his career, he spent time in a variety of positions, developing expertise in communications, marketing and event planning.
He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in history and earned a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy.
Jonathan Pushman, senior director of advocacy at the NJSBA, said Silver’s diverse skillset will be an asset to NJSBA members. “Harrison impressed the entire team with his enthusiasm and knowledge, which will enable him to make an immediate impact as we seek to help our members secure the funding and tools they need to advance the achievement of all children,” Pushman said. “He’ll play a critical role as we advocate for our members in Trenton and at the national level.”
Silver said he’s looking forward to serving as legislative advocate, noting that the interview process made it clear how committed the NJSBA is to helping board members get the funding and resources they need to promote good governance and help children succeed. “I’m excited to meet our members and learn more about the challenges school districts are facing, so I can more effectively advocate on their behalf,” he said.
