The New Jersey Department of Education encourages districts to review the results of the spring 2022 New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment results in conjunction with locally administered assessments to determine how to best support students in learning and mastering state standards.
In July, Gov. Phil Murphy signed P.L.2022, c.60, requiring the State Board of Education to designate the NJGPA administered in spring 2022 as a field test and waiving students in the class of 2023 from the state’s graduation assessment requirement; spring 2022 NJGPA results are being provided to districts for informational purposes and curricular review.
Individual district central offices received individual student reports by Oct. 18. There is a single individual report for each student with the results for each component of the NJGPA, the NJDOE stated in an advisory.
Individual student reports will be sent to both the sending and receiving districts for students who receive their instruction at a school other than their accountable school. Once districts receive individual student reports, a copy must be mailed to parents/guardians within 30 days, which will be Nov. 18, 2022. The NJDOE encourages districts to share the ISRs with students’ families as soon as possible to facilitate the timely distribution of student results. Districts must also report statewide assessment results to their boards of education within 60 days of receipt, which for the spring 2022 NJGPA will be Dec. 19, 2022.
To support these communication efforts, a sample parent cover letter is linked in the district communication resources section of the NJDOE broadcast.
District and State Reporting
Summative and summary files were made available electronically to assigned school and district staff Oct. 12, 2022. The NJDOE encourages school and district leaders to review, analyze and discuss assessment results with staff. While these results provide valuable information, P.L.2022, c.60 prohibits the results of the NJGPA field test from being used as a prerequisite for graduation for students expected to graduate in the class of 2023.
Reporting Requirement
The required report to boards of education must include aggregated and disaggregated subgroup data, comparative analyses and appropriate intervention strategies. The number of students for reporting is a minimum of 10 as per suppression rules applied to student data to protect student confidentiality. To support this reporting requirement, the NJDOE will provide a sample slideshow template on its NJSLA Resources for Districts by Oct. 31, 2022.
The NJDOE plans to publicly release statewide district- and school-level data and school-level participation and performance data disaggregated by student subgroup in due course.
For further details on reporting requirements, additional NJGPA information and to access a variety of resources to assist districts in communicating statewide assessment results with educators, boards of education and parents/guardians, refer to the full advisory.
