Applications are now open for the 2024-2025 class of the Governor’s STEM Scholars, which is spearheaded by the Research & Development Council of New Jersey in partnership with the Office of the New Jersey Governor, the New Jersey Department of Education, and the Office of the New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education. The program provides New Jersey high school and college students with connections, mentors and relationships within the state’s research community that sets them on an academic and career path to become New Jersey’s future STEM professionals.

The Governor’s STEM Scholars brings together New Jersey’s high-achieving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) students, from grades 10 through doctoral level, to connect with New Jersey STEM professionals and experts, learn about higher education and career pathways in STEM, participate in a STEM research project, and acquire important professional development skills. Scholars gain a 360° view of New Jersey’s STEM economy, through four conferences, held from September through May, focusing on government, academia, industry and a commencement. Additionally, scholars will network with the state’s leading STEM researchers and professionals; visit top STEM facilities and labs throughout New Jersey; and participate in a design/research challenge that will impact their local community.
To be considered for the Governor’s STEM Scholars, applicants must be a sophomore in high school through doctoral level as of fall 2024; be enrolled in a New Jersey high school, college or university, or be certified as a home-schooled student in New Jersey; have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher; and show a strong commitment to STEM in New Jersey.
