Jamie Serruto sought and won a seat on the Millburn Township Board of Education in 2019 just weeks after turning 18, becoming the youngest elected official at the time in New Jersey — and he very well may have been the youngest elected official in the country.
Having been presented the opportunity to work and study in Rome, Italy for six months, he has decided to close out his board service Dec. 31, 2022. The opportunity to travel abroad while continuing his studies was one he could not refuse, he said.
As he prepares for his departure, Serruto had words of praise for the New Jersey School Boards Association. “NJSBA is a top-notch organization, and its leadership and staff are at the center of its success,” he said.
Since he is closing out his service with Millburn, he is also concurrently resigning his role as vice president of the Essex County School Boards Association.
