Student representatives to boards of education often end their service with the close of the school year – particularly when the representative is a graduating high school senior.

The NJSBA has developed a sample resolution for boards of education that wish to honor their departing student representative. It can be found here.

Many boards have long included a student representative on their board. But the practice was enshrined in a law signed in January 2022, which requires districts and charter schools with a high school to have a student representative. The law took effect with the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.

As with other sample resolutions, the NJSBA urges boards to customize the resolution to fit the circumstances of its own board and student representative.

More information on how to help your student representative succeed in their task can be found here.
