WalletHub, a personal finance company, recently conducted a study that compared schools in the nation’s 50 states and the District of Columbia across 32 key metrics. New Jersey’s schools ranked fourth in the nation, according to the study.

Unlike other research that focuses primarily on academic outcomes or school finance, WalletHub’s analysis takes a more comprehensive approach. It accounts for performance, funding, safety, class size and instructor credentials.

The states that ranked ahead of New Jersey in the study were Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maryland.
