At the recent Bergen County School Boards Association meeting on Sept. 30, 2024, the Ramsey Board of Education was honored with its board certification and the Carole E. Larsen Master Board Certification.
The Ramsey Board of Education thoroughly embraced training under the leadership of board president Laura Genovese-Behrmann and Vice President Jennifer Burns. Working closely with superintendent Dr. Andrew Matteo, the board officers put together a roughly 24-month plan to achieve not only board certification but also to continue straight into the requirements for master board certification. All that hard work and effort culminated in being honored Sept. 30.
Ramsey board members enthusiastically immersed themselves in the study and implementation of the concepts found in the book, “The Governance Core.” Right away, they saw the value in several of the ideas and resolved to add them to their governance toolbox. They put tremendous time and effort, spearheaded by Jen Burns, into creating a board handbook to pass on the practices of the culture of the board. They faithfully completed the annual board self-evaluation and created a training calendar to ensure the board’s professional development was prioritized. They also took up training in finance, ethics, committees, public engagement and strategic planning.
In the absence of field service representative Matt Lee, NJSBA Chief Membership Engagement Officer Ray Pinney honored the Ramsey Board of Education.
