The special election date for September 2025 has been moved two weeks earlier
to Sept. 16, 2025, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:60-2, which allows for changing special election dates which fall within 45 days of the general election and when it coincides with a period of religious observance, according to an advisory from the New Jersey Department of Education.

In examining possible alternate dates, the NJDOE has taken into consideration all religious observances. The religious holiday of Rosh Hashanah is Sept. 23, 2025.

Questions about this change to the statutory special school election date can be sent to the NJDOE via email.

In related news, the NJDOE also released its 2025 School Election and Budget Procedures Calendar. You may access the Election Calendar through the link on the NJDOE’s Office of School Finance website.
