Time is running out to apply to participate in the 2025 STEAM Tank Challenge, which was created by the New Jersey School Boards Association to promote student achievement in STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

The challenge is open to public school students; applications are due by Jan. 3, 2025.

STEAM Tank encourages students to work collaboratively to identify and develop innovative solutions to pressing, real-world issues, such as climate change and the environment, societal problems, and situations that need resolution within our schools, communities, state and globally. Students are asked to solve a problem, invent something new, or modify an existing product.

The program is designed to inspire, engage, and motivate students to help build problem solving skills, collaborate with their peers, connect with expert mentors and promote student achievement. These points allow for learning to extend beyond the four walls of the classroom.

The STEAM Tank Challenge is a free program for your district and includes:

  • Access to a comprehensive STEAM Tank Guidebook, a “how-to” guide for STEAM Tank participation.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with other teams, educators and subject matter experts in the STEAM Tank Community.
  • Mentoring sessions with subject matter experts.
  • Opportunity to present in the STEAM Tank Regionals and Finals, and if chosen, receive prize money for your school or district.
  • Earn a STEAM Tank digital badge for your school.
