The Mine Hill Township Board of Education has been honored with the Carole E. Larsen Master Board Certification, which is awarded by the New Jersey School Boards Association to recognize high-performing boards. To receive this certification, the board must provide evidence of its commitment to student achievement in its actions.
To earn the Carole E. Larsen Master Board Certification, a currently certified board must complete at least 10 additional hours of training within the first two years of earning its certification, bringing the total to 26 board credits.
The Mine Hill Township Board of Education was first certified in 2005 and again in 2022. In 2022, the board was determined to continue its certification journey, making it a primary goal. Over the past two years, the board has engaged in regular training opportunities focusing on the fundamentals of ethics, roles, the superintendent’s evaluation and annual goal-setting retreats. Charlene Peterson, a senior field service representative with the NJSBA, frequently attended Mine Hill Township meetings. The board enjoys a strong team bond, with all seven members serving in either their second or third terms, along with a dedicated superintendent and business administrator.
After receiving the award, President Diane Morris — who previously worked as a staff member at the NJSBA — shared her reflections on the significant impact Carole E. Larsen, a former field service representative at NJSBA, had on her professional life. Morris expressed her pride in assisting the Mine Hill Township Board of Education in receiving an award named after one of her mentors.
