Notes The NJSBA strongly supported the legislation as originally approved by the Legislature and sent to Gov. Murphy, who conditionally vetoed the bill. Rather than permit individuals to operate Type S school buses without a CDL, the governor recommended expanding an existing law that allows school personnel to transport students to and from school-related activities to also authorize them to drive students to and from school. The Legislature concurred with the governor’s recommendation and allowed the revised bill to become law. The law goes into effect at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.
