The New Jersey School Boards Association will proudly highlight a variety of student performances during its upcoming Workshop conference in October, providing board members, district staff and leaders in education from throughout the state with memorable entertainment during the four-day annual professional training conference.

In the spring, the NJSBA issued a call for student performances and received entries from public schools throughout the state. The winners, selected by an Association panel, will demonstrate their talents and skills in front of thousands of attendees.

Egg Harbor Township High School Jazz Combo

The Happy Accidentals, hailing from Egg Harbor Township High School, is a dynamic jazz combo known for its electrifying performances and versatile musical repertoire.

Pitman Jr./Sr. High School Vocal Duet

Fiona James is a junior at Pitman Jr. Sr. High School. She began studying voice at 9 years old under the direction of Lauren Canna at Afterschool Music. In addition to voice, Fiona also plays piano, guitar, ukulele, flute and baritone sax.

Megan Mazzola is a senior at Pitman Jr. Sr. High School and has taken voice lessons at Afterschool Music with Canna since fourth grade. Since seventh grade, Megan has been a member of the All-South Jersey Chorus ensemble, where she earned the role of section leader for the Soprano II section this past school year.

Egg Harbor Township Indoor Drumline

Over the last four seasons, the Egg Harbor Township Indoor Drumline has competed at the top of the Mid Atlantic Percussion Society, Tournament of Bands and Winter Guard International circuits. The Indoor Percussion Ensemble was awarded first place in MAPS Scholastic Regional A in 2021, third place in MAPS Scholastic A in 2023 and first place in the MAPS Scholastic A Goslin Division in 2024.

Galloway Township Middle School Step Team

The GTMS Step Team is a group of middle school students who are dedicated to education, leadership, stepping, hip-hop dancing and community service. The team performs at various events. The 2024 Step Competition Team took first place at The Bridging the Gap Step Show in Paterson, New Jersey, scoring 295 points out of 300!

Paterson Public School 24 Band

School 24’s band is composed of students in grades 5 to 8. The school band, under the guidance of its dedicated band director, David Alpaca, has evolved into a musical powerhouse in just a few short years. What started as a group of students with varying levels of experience has transformed into a harmonious ensemble that captivates audiences with its incredible sound.

High Tech High School Performance Division Dance Ensemble

The HTHS Performance Division Dance Ensemble consists of preprofessional high school dancers in the Career and Technical Education program of study from Secaucus, New Jersey, under the direction of Trista DeFilippis, a professional dancer and veteran instructor. Students are immersed in a comprehensive curriculum based on modern and ballet techniques supplemented by improvisation, choreography, jazz, hip-hop, conditioning, yoga and Pilates.

Mount Olive High School Rock & Roll Academy

Rock & Roll Academy is a modern band performing ensemble that is offered at Mount Olive High School in Flanders, New Jersey. The program is designed to give students the opportunity to perform in a rock band and learn about a wide variety of popular music from the 1950s to the present.

PCTVS Dance Ensemble

Passaic County Technical Institute is a career and technical education school that serves students in Passaic County. The School of Performing Arts Dance Program accepts students with a variety of dance backgrounds and immerses these students in a rigorous four-year curriculum that prepares them for higher education and/or a professional career in dance.

Woodstown High School Cantare

Cantare is Woodstown High School’s most-select vocal ensemble, performing both a cappella and accompanied repertoire. As a subset of the school’s Chamber Choir program, the ensemble is called upon to perform at many school and community events.

Secure Your Spot at Workshop The regular group registration rate is $2,200 for up to 25 team members. Districts may include the school board, business administrator, superintendent, facilities managers, curriculum professionals, IT staff, principals, human resource professionals, educators and other district staff in their group registration. Individual registration is $550 per person.

Housing Information The NJSBA, in collaboration with AC Central, contracts with several Atlantic City hotels to offer discounted pricing on hotel rooms for Workshop. All housing reservations are handled by AC Central. The last day to make and pay for hotel reservations is Sept. 22, 2024.
