Pursuant to N.J. Stat. § 18A:7F-4.4, the New Jersey Department of Education is required to adopt student learning standards in information literacy, which enables an individual to recognize when information is needed and to locate, evaluate and effectively use the needed information. The NJDOE is committed to engaging stakeholders in collaborative efforts to ensure the standards are rigorous, research-based and appropriate to prepare students to be college- and career-ready, it announced in an advisory.
The NJDOE seeks to establish a highly qualified and diverse committee of volunteers with broad stakeholder representation. In addition, because artificial intelligence is an essential component of information literacy, we request that individuals with experience in artificial intelligence use in the K-12 classroom apply to serve on the information literacy standards writing committees.
A self-nomination process will be used to identify educators, content experts and other qualified stakeholders to serve on one of four separate committees during different points in the standards development process based on applicant qualifications and experience.

Individuals interested in volunteering for the information literacy standards construction process should complete and submit a committee participation form no later than 11:59 pm on June 3, 2024. Previous committee participation does not preclude individuals from applying. Applicants may state their interest in participating on more than one committee if they have all the necessary qualifications.
